Passportia Family Migration Services
Passportia is a specialist immigration firm independent of the UK government and regulated by the Office of Immigration Services Commissioner. Applications for UK visas are made directly to the Home Office or Visa Application Centre, however legal advice on making a claim cannot be obtained from these bodies. Our specialist lawyers offer advice and advocacy services for families wishing to move to the UK, or extend a family visa in the UK.
Passportia specialises in applications for family reunion, including spouses and civil partners, fiancées and unmarried partners. If you have been separated from your family members then the situation can be even more stressful. Our expert immigration lawyers are experienced in such cases and understand the urgency and importance of supporting you through the process. The growing restrictions on the right of appeal against visa refusals from outside the UK means that it is more important than ever to make sure the application is prepared thoroughly, by a lawyer who knows the law in depth.
Our lawyers can advise on meeting the financial requirements under Appendix FM and exactly when these apply. We are also able to investigate whether you can make use of the more generous provisions of EU law where one family member is an EEA national (citizen of an European Union/EEA country) or may have a claim to certain European citizenships. We will always try identify if an aspect of EU law can help your case.

Spouses, Civil Partners, Unmarried Partners and Fiancées
If your partner is overseas and you want to sponsor them to join you in the UK, our immigration lawyers can help you understand the requirements and guide you through the application process in order to better your chance of success and to expedite the process.
EU Rules for Free Movement or Normal Immigration Rules?
There are basically two sets of rules for sponsoring family members to live in the UK:
- EU rules (possible if a family member is an EEA national), or
- normal ‘immigration rules’ (possible if sponsor is a British citizen or settled).
The requirements for the EU rules are significantly easier than the normal immigration rules. The immigration rules now have a significant financial requirement for the sponsoring partner (more details below).
We are experts in cases where a family member is an ‘EEA national’ (a citizen of a European Union or EEA country, other than the UK). Interpretations of the EU rules are affected by ongoing court judgements and Passportia keeps fully abreast of these.
